In The Footsteps of Legends South Pole expedition team has finally completed their journey on December 11, arriving to the destination point at 90º after the long and exhausting two-week travel. The team was led by David Hempleman-Adams and Justin Packshaw, veteran polar explorers. The endeavor started at 88ºs; the two degrees were covered in a charity effort. In order to arrive by December 11, the team covered additional miles. Currently the team is on the way to Union Glacier, planning to return to Chile if weather is favorable.

While the team is wrapping up, another climber – Richard Parks was to depart from Hercules Inlet to cover impressive 700 miles on foot during his solo expedition. However, none of his gear arrived in Punta Arenas, although he had shipped everything necessary well before leaving London. Logistical company ALE had been trying to track the lost luggage and finally located it, but the delay is rather significant. That means Parks may have to cancel the whole expedition because of the gear shipping mess. He had, of course, planned the endeavor with a couple of additional days, but they all are off now, and the whole thing is in a serious jeopardy. The climber is positive, saying he has more time to study the challenges he will face along the dangerous 700-mile route.

Another skier is on her way to the South Pole -Vilborg Arna Gissurardóttir. She has crossed the 83rd degree and managed to hit her 20km-a-day goal. Athletes, however, are not the only ones exploring the Antarctic – the Lake Ellsworth team has started drilling ice to penetrate more than 3 km of it in search for a lake underneath.
